Hi there!

Thanks for commenting! Since this article was originally written, Alimentum has changed a few ingredients. We’ve updated the text to reflect these changes.

What is important to note: Alimentum is lactose-free, but not dairy-free.

This is important if your child has a cow’s milk protein allergy (CMPA) vs lactose intolerance. With the CMPA, baby’s tummy can’t break down the actual protein in the milk and their immune system has a reaction to it. With lactose intolerance, baby doesn’t have lactase in their gut to break down the milk sugar called lactose.

This article has a fabulous section that explains the difference: https://gikids.org/digestive-topics/cows-milk-protein-allergy/.

So if your baby has CMPA, they may tolerate this formula and they may not, depending on their level of sensitivity to milk protein. If your baby is lactose-intolerant, they should be fine with Alimentum.

As always, check with your doc! They’ll have the best advice for you and your baby.
